Cola Hot Wings – Game Day Grilling Series

There’s nothing like the beginning of football season, and there’s nothing like football with fresh hot wings.  The Game Day Grilling Series is here to get your grill piping out terrific fan-crazed tailgating favorites, and lots of it. Sports and hot wings are about as American as hot dogs and baseball, and these Cola Hot Wings are perfect for an all-day-Sunday-football-wing-fest. Featuring, a syrupy sweet and spicy basting sauce that caramelizes with all of heaven’s goodness into a beautiful color and texture, these wings will appease the attending throng of mongrels and football gods the same.

Begin by dividing the chicken wings into the three sections, and then discarding the wingtips.  Prepare the grill for indirect heat by lighting only one of the burners, and use a drip pan to catch all the drippings ‘cause there’s going to be a lot of them.  Make the basting sauce by mixing cola, hot sauce, soy sauce, cayenne pepper, and pepper in a small bowl.  First grill the wings over indirect medium heat for 10 minutes, then begin turning and basting frequently for another 30-40 minutes.  Many words could describe the arrival of the finished product piled on a platter and set before the 80” monster in the family room at kickoff – let’s just say, “Boom!”  This is the Game Day Grilling Series.
