Beat the Heat with this Covered Patio, Built-in Custom Grill Island, and Retractable Glass Walls in Las Vegas
In extreme environments, finding ways to work around the harsh elements is key to creating an outdoor space that is relaxing and refreshing. In the Nevada desert, much of Las Vegas has been transformed into an oasis with large neighborhoods. However, careful planning is still needed to ensure the outdoor living space is enjoyable and tolerable throughout the year. Many of the new home designs employ a sizeable covered patio under the second-story overhang to provide an outdoor space that is virtually always shaded. These homeowners have taken that design and made the most of their patio to enjoy the outdoor life with a built-in grill island, fully stocked outdoor kitchen, retractable glass doors that can join the indoor and outdoor living spaces in cooler months, and a small curated xeriscape yard with artificial grass. Beautiful brick flooring has been used that adds intrigue and some tonal variation to the stucco of the home. Ceiling fans have been installed in the patio to keep the air moving and circulating in summer months to help with stagnate air. The outdoor kitchen is large and encompassing to provide everything needed for a day outside.
The grill island uses an “L-shaped” design that uses the full depth of the patio. The homeowners needed this configuration to fit in all their appliances. With a Big Green Egg Kamado style grill, Evo griddle, Summerset Sizzler Pro grill, and matching double side-burner, this kitchen is loaded with opportunity to grill, smoke, and cook anything. The island also includes stainless steel dry storage cabinet and drawers and a built-in refrigerator to keep drinks cold and refreshing. The Island was finished in the same stucco as the home for a custom, built-in look. Topped with beautiful dark tile countertops that contrast nicely against the bright stucco, the homeowners succeeded in creating a unique outdoor living space that is exciting and cohesive with the home's design.
